Industrial lights

Industrial lighting is designed for environments that demand durability, consistent performance, and even illumination of large areas. In manufacturing plants, warehouses, and logistics centers, it ensures safe working conditions, reduces shadows, and supports visual inspection of production processes.

Modern industrial lights use efficient LED technology with long-term stable luminous output. The right industrial fixture must suit the mounting height, operational requirements, and protection levels against dust, moisture, and mechanical stress.

The role of industrial lighting in facilities

Industrial lighting serves as the primary illumination for extensive workspaces. For ceiling heights above 6 meters, fixtures with focused optics are necessary to direct light efficiently onto the work plane. In lower storage areas, wider beam angles provide more uniform coverage.

A common mistake is undersizing the light output or spacing fixtures too far apart, causing uneven lighting. Poor uniformity (U0) can compromise workplace safety and spatial orientation. The industrial fixture should minimize glare for both workers and equipment operators.

Technical specifications of industrial LED lighting

According to standard ČSN EN 12464-1, most production and storage areas require 300–500 lux on the work plane. With installation heights of 6–10 meters, fixtures commonly have outputs between 15,000–30,000 lumens. Industrial LED lights with efficiencies of 150 lm/W or higher achieve required illumination levels while optimizing energy use.

Color temperature between 4000–5000 K enhances visual clarity and focus. A color rendering index (CRI) of at least 80 is suitable for general manufacturing; higher CRI values are recommended for color-critical tasks.

Choosing beam angles of 60°, 90°, or 120° depends on mounting height and workspace layout. Narrow optics fit high ceilings, while wider distributions suit lower spaces. A quality optical system reduces glare and ensures even light distribution among fixtures.

Eliminating stroboscopic effects around rotating machinery is also critical. Industrial LED lights should have high-quality drivers with low flicker to prevent optical distortion of moving parts.

Durability is essential. Industrial lighting must have at least IP65 protection for dusty or humid environments and adequate mechanical strength. Thermally stabilized LED modules ensure consistent light output over long-term continuous operation without significant lumen depreciation.

Practical design example for an industrial fixture

In an 800 m² warehouse with an 8-meter ceiling height, installing 20 industrial fixtures with 20,000 lumens each, arranged in a 6 × 6 meter grid, can provide an average illumination of about 350 lux with good uniformity.

A typical error is installing fixtures without proper lighting design calculations, leading to excessive energy consumption or insufficient light in critical zones. Fixture spacing must consider both mounting height and operational needs.

For the electrical setup, dividing fixtures into multiple controllable circuits or using presence and daylight sensors helps optimize running costs and adjusts lighting to current conditions.

Design and versatility of industrial lighting

Industrial lights can be mounted as suspended, surface-mounted, or linked into linear systems above assembly lines or storage aisles. Modular designs allow flexible adaptation to specific operational requirements.

Industrial LED lights feature aluminum or steel housing with robust covers. The construction must ensure effective heat dissipation to maintain long-term stable performance even under continuous use.

Control options and long-term value

Dimming and control through DALI or 1–10 V systems allow adjusting light levels according to the time of day and space utilization. An industrial fixture with smart controls can significantly reduce energy consumption.

High-quality industrial lighting is engineered for long service life with minimal maintenance. Stable light output, durable construction, and high efficiency make for a technically balanced solution that supports safe and productive industrial operations.
